What are good travel toys for a 3-4 year old girl?

sprite asked:
My niece will be 4 this May and will be traveling to Florida with my sister-in-laws family. I am getting her a very cute little fuzzy luggage bag on wheels to take on the plane for Christmas, but I would like to get her a couple of inexpensive things to put in her luggage case to entertain her on the plane. Other than books, what would be some good travel-type games or toys for a 3-4 year old girl?

Coloring book and crayons, small wood framed puzzles, some kind of electronic learning toy with VOLUME control. Also, make sure to pack her some gum, it helps to pop their ears.

Some good things to pack for her to take would be: coloring books and crayons, small toys like polly pockets or something similar, maybe someone else will get her one of the hand held leapster or vtech games and you could get her some game cartridges for it, snacks, candy, gum, juice drinks like capri sun, stickers, dvd’s if she has a portable dvd player(you can get episodes of Dora, etc fairly cheap), a travel pillow. Thats about all I can think of,lol. Good Luck

I know this sounds a little crazy, but its what we do when we travel with our 3 kids. I go to the dollar strore and pick up a small cookie sheet, like for baking. They provide a hard surface for writing and they an edge all around so their colors won’t roll off. Its been a couple of years since I have been on a plane and I know there are very strict rules about what is okay and what’s not, so they might not allow this anymore. It also works great for in the car.

I make a binder with paper, a crayon case that fits into the binder and holds crayons and stickers (no markers, we learned that the hard way!). Besides regular paper, I put some mazes, dot-to-dots, and coloring sheets printed from the internet. Beyond that, put two stuffed animals, plastic animals or people, or puppets (so they can play together). You can also get a small magnetic version of simple games like chutes and ladders or checkers … whether your niece is ready for games like that really depends on her (some almost-4-year-olds are, some aren’t) … either way, it’s only a good idea if someone is going to be willing to play it with her. There are also those little plastic games where you shake it around and try to get the ball into the middle; most 3-year-olds would be entertained with those for a while. And if she’s not reading to herself, you can always add some lift-the-flap type books.

She’s at the just right age for all those Little Kitty things they make that are perfect for traveling. They come in lots of different logos or mottos and just pick whatever you think she’d like. The items are usually miniature in size and that’s what makes them so ideal for traveling and also what makes them appealing to little kids. They make miniature paper and crayons and markers. They make little decks of cards (great for learning to count and learning to recognize numbers!) and mini water bottles. They make tons of little things and lots of them are just right for that age and for traveling! How about music?
