Okay to ask for gift receipt for child’s christmas gift made with hazardous materials?

lash asked:
My three year old daughter received a lot of Christmas presents this year from my in laws. I had asked them at Thanksgiving to check out healthytoys.org, just to make sure they did not buy anything that could be potentially hazardous. I don’t want to be rude to my in laws, but a few of them purchased toys that were rated as having Med. and High amounts of lead and chlorine, and I don’t plan on giving them to my daughter.
Is it rude to ask for a gift receipt? Or should I just get rid of them?

I would first try to return it without a receipt. You might get store credit if not cash for her to buy something safer. I would use extreme cautious in asking unless you told a little white lie. Like she got double.

I would return it, I would be afraid of offending the gift giver.

I think you should not ask a receipt because it is a great insult! Accept it and you alone are the only one will find a way if that toys or a gift is not good for your child. Or you can search the name of the brand of the toy on the net.

Discuss the problem with the gift-givers. Don’t take an angry or demanding tone with them. Let them know that you’re concerned about your daughter’s safety. Ask them if they’d rather get the gift back, or give you the gift receipt so that you can exchange it for something safer.
You can send them the information that you found out about the gifts they gave. This will hopefully inform them of the seriousness of the situation.
If they don’t comply, trash the toys, or see if you can exchange them without the receipts. Complain to the manufacturer or the distributor.
